Wikipad gaming tablet detailed:

In what looks like more of an assault on the handheld gaming industry rather than the tablet marketplace, Wikipad has been talking about its self titled first product, the Wikipad gaming tablet, giving up the goods on its internal and external features.
Th1 10.1 inch tablet weighs in at just 560 grams and is less than 9mm thick, with a display resolution of 1,280 x 800. On the inside, it’ll be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 3 T30 running at 1.4Ghz. This features four processing cores and will be paired up 1GB of DDR2 memory at 1066MHz. While this is far from a monstrous hardware setup, it’s more powerful than the Google Nexus 7, which features the slower T30L chip.

For storage, users will have access to at least 16GB, though apparently the final total has yet to be decided by the manufacturer. In terms of battery life, gamers will be able to get around six hours of continuous play from the little device and up to eight hours of video playback, according to Venture Beat.

For the operating system, Wikipad went with Android 4.1 and will ship the tablet with a gaming controller which features Xbox 360 like face buttons. Slotting the WikiPad into this controller, gamers need not balance the tablet separately, making for a more compact mobile gaming system. It also features a pair of analogue thumb sticks and a traditional DPad.
Similar to the 3DS, the developer has also added a paid of cameras, an 8 megapixel one on the back and a 2 megapixel one on the front.
While pricing and release date information have yet to be announced, the day isn’t likely far away as Wikipad won’t want the hardware it’s using to become outdated.
KitGuru Says: With the Ouya and the growth of tablet and mobile gaming, it seems like there’s a real movement away from the big 3 console manufacturers. By the time the next-generation of Xbox and PlayStations are released, will anyone care at that point?
