ofcom announces 4G phones

High speed 4G mobile phone networks are finally coming to Britain - but consumers will not be able to use them until the end of next year at the earliest, regulator Ofcom admitted today.

The telecoms regulator unveiled plans for the auction of fourth generation (4G) bandwidth for mobile phone services, but has said bidding will not start until early 2013.
The high speed technology promises to allow smartphone owners to watch high definition TV on the move.

Das Keyboard Model s

Within seconds after unboxing the keyboard, it was ready to use! There was no installation required. My MacBook Air, running OS X Lion, detected everything instantly. The keyboard has two USB cables, one enables the keyboard component and the other for the USB hub. Das Keyboard has two USB ports on the side, which is neat. The two ports on the right side are easy to access and great for connecting your USB devices.

Norton 360

Since quite some time, Symantec’s Norton set of applications have been known to computer users — particularly the anti virus application. Over the past few years, Symantec has been bundling more and more applications into a single suite for Internet security. Recently I got my hands on a review copy of Norton 360 v6.0 and tested it on my system for a period. Lets’s see how it does.

Droid 4G’s S-LCD

The Incredible 4G’s S-LCD display clocks in with a resolution of 540×960 (275ppi) which looks great when viewing photos, watching videos and browsing the web. The display is also pretty bright which is another “plus”. However, the display has one major flaw really gets on my nerves. When tapping one of the three capacitive buttons below with the slightest amount of force, the whole screen starts to get funky and discolored. And while the screen returns to normal after the button is pressed, it’s annoying and makes the phone look and feel cheap.

Verizon Droid Razr Maxx

The Verizon Droid Razr Maxx came pre-installed with Gingerbread (Android 2.3). I was kind of bummed that it did not come with Ice Cream Sandwich (aka ICS, or Android 4.0) installed, but I was easily able to determine that there was an update available. This update brought the 4.0.3 version of Ice Cream Sandwich to the phone and automatically increased its appeal several times over. The menus scrolled smoothly, apps loaded quite quickly thanks to the dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 processor, and PowerVR SGX540 GPU in the phone along with the 1 GB of RAM made it quite powerful. I loaded up all of my favorite apps: Skype, Trillian, etc. I was, however, a little annoyed with the bloat that Verizon decided to

LG Optimus 4X

It would appear that the LG Spectrum 2 (or LG Optimus 4X HD if you happen to be reading this from

somewhere other than the US) is headed straight for Verizon. Renders of the phone have been spotted by TechnoBuffalo, and the phone looks primed to take advantage of Verizon’s 4G LTE services. Not only that, but a list of specs has surfaced as well, and it appears that the LG Spectrum 2 will be able to hold its own against some of the other higher-end Android phones that have been released this year.

New BlackBerry PlayBook 4G with LTE and HSPA+ arrives July 31

Various dates have been rumored for a 3G-capable refresh of the BlackBerry PlayBook, which RIM first talked about at Mobile World Congress 2011. A leaked roadmap that surfaced in January suggested that its launch had been delayed at least in part by a switch to HSPA+. Earlier this month, a second roadmap appeared — indicating a Q4 2012 launch for the 4G PlayBook. Now it’s finally popped up in a carrier’s database, and the updated

samsung Gogh

A new Samsung device named ‘Gogh’ has surfaced online showing off the device in all its glory. The new Sprint bound smartphone is also compared side by side with the HTC One X, which gives us a good idea of the size difference between the two handsets. The Gogh is said to sport a decent 4-inch Super AMOLED Plus display with pixel dimensions of 480×800, a 5MP rear camera, 1GB of RAM, a 1.2 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 chip which interestingly is the same chip used in the American variants of the Galaxy S III, although they are overclocked to 1.5 GHz.
