Facebook on (June 7) began rolling out its App Center, filled
with personal recommendations for both Web and mobile apps. In all, 600
social apps are available and they're all free.
You'll recognize all the big names — Pinterest, Instagram, Viddy — but
the new center makes it easy to discover apps you might not know about.
How about Wattpad — a social hub for budding novelists or Postagram that
turns your Facebook photos into postcards and takes care of the mailing
for you.
The app center presents personal recommendations based on the apps you
use and those that your friends have downloaded. You can see who's using
what app in the list that appears under each app listing. Below those
two sections, Facebook shows the most used and highest rated apps, along
with your friends who are using them. At the moment, Pinterest tops the
list, followed by Draw Something and Instagram.
But perhaps the most interesting section are the "Timeline Apps" — all
the apps that will post directly to your Timeline such as Spotify,
Foursquare and Muzy, a collage-maker for photos.
Ready to play? Go to www.facebook.com/appcenter on your computer.
Alternately, App Center is available on mobile via the Facebook apps for
iOS and Android, or by accessing Facebook.com on your phone's browser.
You can also send apps you find on your computer to your mobile device
using the “Send to Mobile” feature. If a mobile app requires a
download, you’ll be sent to install it from the Apple App Store or
Google Play.
